HUB Goodwill Senior bowl takes a year off
For the first time in decades, the HUB Goodwill Senior Bowl has been sidelined.
The annual senior all-star game featuring football players from the ILH and OIA was not sanctioned this year by either league due to a lack of insurance. Last year’s game, won by the East 20-7, was played at Mililani’s John Kauinana Stadium.
OIA football coordinator Harold Tanaka confirmed the news.
Life Champion Senior Bowl steps up
The newly formed Life Champion Senior Bowl in Hilo has not been sanctioned, but the exhibition game will be played on Dec. 6.
According to the HHSAA (and DOE) rules, this is a "red" period, which means no DOE coaches or equipment are allowed to be used in exhibition games unless sanctioned.
The game, which will kick off at 7 p.m., will be played at Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Paiea Stadium in Keaau.
GPA Football’s underclassmen combine will also be held at Paiea Stadium on Dec. 6. Registration is available at PIAAHawaii.com. Cost is $25. Check-in is 8 a.m. and the combine starts at 9 a.m.
